UC/Proctitis Community and Forum Watchlist

Purpose: this is the standing watchlist for online discussion boards, forums, Reddit communities, and specific threads that may contain anecdotal but potentially useful reports of UC/proctitis cures, remissions, improvements, worsening, relapse triggers, and protocol details.

This page is for research monitoring and hypothesis generation only. Community reports should never be treated as proof or as instructions to change prescribed UC care.

Monitoring stance

Paul explicitly wants community reports captured because they can surface patterns before formal studies do. The weekly/recurring research system should therefore monitor:

  • cure/healed/remission claims;
  • “what finally helped me” reports;
  • relapse-after-reintroduction reports;
  • protocols with clear dose/duration/timeline;
  • objective markers when mentioned: calprotectin, CRP, colonoscopy, histology, stool tests, medication status;
  • harms/worsening reports;
  • discussions of mechanisms relevant to Paul’s central theory: mucus, constipation/contact time, pelvic floor, dairy/gluten, sleep/stress, butyrate/F. prausnitzii/Roseburia, redox/Pravda/RDLA, PC, ALP/cholesterol, pathobionts.

Tier 1 — Core communities to monitor regularly

These are broad enough to provide recurring reports and are worth checking in a weekly/monthly scrub.

Tier 3 — Experimental / alternative communities to monitor with stricter safety filters

CommunityURLWhy monitorSafety/quality caveat
Low-Toxin Forumhttps://lowtoxinforum.com/Ray Peat / bioenergetic / low-toxin community; likely to surface non-mainstream UC remission protocolsStrong cure claims; possible supplement/protocol risk; label anecdotal/speculative
Bluelighthttps://www.bluelight.org/community/Harm-reduction/drug forum; can surface unusual compounds/protocols and user-experience detailsHigh safety filtering; not a medical forum
Reddit r/Microbiomehttps://www.reddit.com/r/Microbiome/Useful for microbiome, probiotics, FMT, stool-test discussionsOften speculative; confirm against clinical evidence

Extraction fields for each useful anecdote

When a thread/post looks useful, extract:

  • platform/community/thread URL;
  • username if public and useful, otherwise omit or anonymize;
  • diagnosis certainty: UC/proctitis/Crohn’s/IBD/unknown;
  • disease state: active flare/remission/unknown;
  • intervention(s): diet, supplement, medication, procedure, lifestyle, protocol;
  • dose/duration/timing if stated;
  • objective markers: calprotectin, CRP, colonoscopy, histology, labs, medication status;
  • outcome: symptom improvement, remission, cure claim, worsening, relapse, no effect;
  • confounders: concurrent meds, steroids, biologics, mesalamine, antibiotics, diet changes, spontaneous remission;
  • safety concerns;
  • relevance to Paul’s central theory;
  • whether it should become a journal finding, method page update, top insight, or clinician question.

Current access notes from 2026-06-25

  • Firecrawl/web_search failed with a billing authorization error, so this pass used Jina Reader, Brave search HTML, and local terminal fallbacks.
  • Jina Reader successfully retrieved the user-provided Bluelight and Low-Toxin threads.
  • Reddit generic reader snapshots were minimal; OpenCLI Reddit search timed out and Reddit public JSON returned 403 from terminal. Use browser/OpenCLI retry later for full Reddit thread extraction.
  • Crohn’s Forum was blocked by Cloudflare/“Just a moment” through Jina; use browser/manual extraction later.
  • Raw snapshots from this pass are under raw/social/2026-06-25-uc-forum-watchlist-candidates/.

Last monitoring run — 2026-06-29

Digest: Forum Watchlist Digest — 2026-06-29

Raw snapshots:

  • raw/reddit/2026-06-29-uc-community-watchlist/
  • raw/social/2026-06-29-uc-community-watchlist/

Access notes from this run:

  • Agent Reach reported Reddit active backend as OpenCLI, and Reddit search/read worked this time.
  • Managed web_search failed with a Firecrawl/Nouse billing authorization error; the run used OpenCLI Reddit plus Jina Reader/direct forum URLs instead.
  • OpenCLI printed an update notice: v1.8.3 → v1.8.5.
  • HealingWell remained only partially readable through Jina because the index snapshot did not expose thread titles.

High-signal findings to continue tracking:

  • New r/UlcerativeColitis antibiotic-remission story: possible infection/pathobiont/antibiotic-responsive subgroup, but high C. difficile/toxic-colitis/microbiome-disruption safety risk and strong diagnosis/confounding questions.
  • New helminth/parasite thread: one detailed near-remission report but severe gas/bloating, contagion to spouse, and only ~3 months benefit after deworming; treat mainly as immune/microbiome signal plus safety warning.
  • Nicotine-responsive UC pattern remains recurrent; the useful question is clinician-supervised nicotine-replacement relevance for clear responders, not smoking initiation.
  • Constipation/mucus/blood reports strongly reinforced the UCAC/proctitis-contact-time branch and the need to track psyllium/water, PEG/Miralax, full evacuation, and pelvic-floor mechanics carefully.
  • Bluelight and Low-Toxin continue to surface Pravda/RDLA/redox claims; keep these under the existing redox branch with supplement-quality and DIY/enema safety filters.

Safety boundaries

Community cure/remission reports are valuable, but high-risk patterns must be flagged:

  • stopping prescribed UC medications without clinician supervision;
  • DIY enemas, especially hydrogen peroxide, chlorine dioxide/CDS/MMS, or irritant protocols;
  • unregulated FMT;
  • antibiotics/antimicrobials without clinician oversight;
  • aggressive fasting/restriction during active flare or weight loss;
  • high-dose supplements with liver/kidney/bleeding/electrolyte risks;
  • protocols with commercial incentives and no objective markers.

Next actions

  • Create the weekly medical research internet scrub cron and include this watchlist in its prompt.
  • Retry Reddit extraction through browser/OpenCLI and save full snapshots for the high-signal Reddit threads. Completed via Agent Reach/OpenCLI on 2026-06-29; keep using this route while available.
  • Browser-fetch the Crohn’s Forum healing-story thread if possible.
  • Build first anecdotes/uc-community-cure-remission-patterns.md synthesis once at least 10–20 detailed reports are extracted.
