UC/Proctitis Community and Forum Watchlist
Purpose: this is the standing watchlist for online discussion boards, forums, Reddit communities, and specific threads that may contain anecdotal but potentially useful reports of UC/proctitis cures, remissions, improvements, worsening, relapse triggers, and protocol details.
This page is for research monitoring and hypothesis generation only. Community reports should never be treated as proof or as instructions to change prescribed UC care.
Monitoring stance
Paul explicitly wants community reports captured because they can surface patterns before formal studies do. The weekly/recurring research system should therefore monitor:
- cure/healed/remission claims;
- “what finally helped me” reports;
- relapse-after-reintroduction reports;
- protocols with clear dose/duration/timeline;
- objective markers when mentioned: calprotectin, CRP, colonoscopy, histology, stool tests, medication status;
- harms/worsening reports;
- discussions of mechanisms relevant to Paul’s central theory: mucus, constipation/contact time, pelvic floor, dairy/gluten, sleep/stress, butyrate/F. prausnitzii/Roseburia, redox/Pravda/RDLA, PC, ALP/cholesterol, pathobionts.
Tier 1 — Core communities to monitor regularly
These are broad enough to provide recurring reports and are worth checking in a weekly/monthly scrub.
| Community | URL | Source class | Why monitor | Query focus | Access notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Reddit r/UlcerativeColitis | https://www.reddit.com/r/UlcerativeColitis/ | reddit-thread | Largest practical patient-discussion source found so far; good for success stories, medication/diet contrasts, and harm reports | cure, remission, success stories, what helped, natural treatment, diet, constipation, psyllium, kiwi, LDN, FMT, mesalamine, biologic | OpenCLI timed out in this session and public JSON returned 403; use browser/OpenCLI retry or search-engine snippets |
| Reddit r/IBD | https://www.reddit.com/r/IBD/ | reddit-thread | Broader IBD community; useful for UC/Crohn’s differential, diet, supplements, and testing reports | same as above + proctitis, calprotectin, stool test | Same Reddit access caveat |
| Reddit r/UlcerativeColitisRDLA | https://www.reddit.com/r/UlcerativeColitisRDLA/ | reddit-thread | Niche community around Pravda/RDLA/redox claims; high relevance but high safety caution | RDLA, Pravda, STS, hydrogen peroxide, remission, side effect, calprotectin | Same Reddit access caveat; high safety filtering required |
| HealingWell UC forum | https://www.healingwell.com/community/default.aspx?f=38 | forum-thread | Older, disease-specific, long-running UC forum; Paul’s Notion already flagged it as “very active” | remission, diet, mesalamine, rectal meds, fiber, constipation, proctitis, LDN, FMT, curcumin | Jina verified forum title; thread-level search may need search engine/browser |
| Smart Patients — Inflammatory Bowel Disease | https://www.smartpatients.com/forums/inflammatory-bowel-disease | forum-thread | Better signal-to-noise than many forums; condition-oriented patient discussions, often more structured | ulcerative colitis, remission, diet, LDN, side effects, biologic, what worked | Jina verified page title |
| MyCrohnsAndColitisTeam | https://www.mycrohnsandcolitisteam.com/ | patient-community | Large patient social network; good for lived-experience reports and practical questions | ulcerative colitis remission, natural support, diet, fatigue, constipation, probiotics | Jina verified site; full community may require account/login |
| Mayo Clinic Connect digestive group | https://connect.mayoclinic.org/group/digestive-gastrointestinal-problems/ | forum-thread | Moderated medical-adjacent community; lower “cure” volume but better safety/clinician framing | ulcerative colitis, remission, proctitis, constipation, diet, biologic, mesalamine | Jina verified page title |
Tier 2 — High-signal cure/remission/protocol threads to revisit
These are specific threads or thread leads that should be revisited when looking for detailed anecdotal protocols.
| Thread / lead | URL | Why monitor | Initial retrieval status | Safety notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bluelight — Ulcerative Colitis MegaThread | https://www.bluelight.org/community/threads/ulcerative-colitis-megathread.950972/ | User-provided; Jina snapshot shows terms including remission, LDN, mesalamine, Pravda, RDLA; potentially high signal for experimental protocol discussion | Raw snapshot saved: raw/social/2026-06-25-uc-forum-watchlist-candidates/bluelight_uc_megathread.md | Harm-reduction/drug forum; treat protocol claims with strong safety filter |
| Low-Toxin Forum — Cure Ulcerative Colitis in 6 weeks | https://lowtoxinforum.com/threads/cure-ulcerative-colitis-in-6-weeks.46821/ | User-provided; high density of “cure” language and protocol discussion; likely overlaps Ray Peat/low-toxin/Pravda-style communities | Raw snapshot saved: raw/social/2026-06-25-uc-forum-watchlist-candidates/lowtoxin_uc_6_weeks.md | Title makes strong cure claim; extract protocol details separately and verify safety |
| Low-Toxin Forum — Ulcerative Colitis, Support During the Remission? | https://lowtoxinforum.com/threads/ulcerative-colitis-support-during-the-remission.37124/ | Search-discovered; high remission-term density; likely useful for maintenance/remission-support anecdotes | Raw snapshot saved: raw/social/2026-06-25-uc-forum-watchlist-candidates/lowtoxin_remission_support.md | Same low-toxin/Ray Peat context caveats |
| Reddit — Success stories | https://www.reddit.com/r/UlcerativeColitis/comments/1fmdxjk/success_stories/ | Search-discovered; likely positive/remission reports | Jina snapshot only exposed minimal content; use browser/OpenCLI later | Good target for manual/browser extraction |
| Reddit — Remission is possible: what I learned after 20 years with UC | https://www.reddit.com/r/UlcerativeColitis/comments/1m3pp8n/remission_is_possible_what_i_learned_after_20/ | Search-discovered; title suggests long-duration practical lessons and disagreement in comments | Jina snapshot only exposed minimal content; use browser/OpenCLI later | Important to capture both positive report and pushback |
| Reddit — Natural treatment? | https://www.reddit.com/r/UlcerativeColitis/comments/18bt1nc/natural_treatment/ | Search-discovered; useful for community response to natural-treatment claims and safety warnings | Jina snapshot only exposed minimal content; use browser/OpenCLI later | Useful contradiction/safety source |
| Reddit — Natural remission | https://www.reddit.com/r/UlcerativeColitis/comments/uyxpnr/natural_remission/ | Search-discovered; likely contains reports/pushback around non-medication remission | Jina snapshot only exposed minimal content; use browser/OpenCLI later | Safety filter: medication discontinuation claims |
| Reddit — Creating a master list of available treatments | https://www.reddit.com/r/UlcerativeColitis/comments/1luu0ns/creating_a_master_list_of_available_treatments/ | Search-discovered; likely useful index thread for conventional + adjunctive options | Jina snapshot only exposed minimal content; use browser/OpenCLI later | Needs separation of standard care vs experimental adjuncts |
| Crohn’s Forum — My healing story: towards full recovery from UC | https://crohnsforum.com/threads/my-healing-story-towards-full-recovery-from-uc.86697/ | Search-discovered; title strongly matches cure/remission anecdote target | Jina hit Cloudflare/“Just a moment”; use browser/manual later | Need verify diagnosis, protocol, outcome markers |
| Carenity UK — 6 natural ways to manage ulcerative colitis | https://www.carenity.co.uk/forum/ulcerative-colitis/my-library-ulcerative-colitis/6-natural-ways-to-manage-ulcerative-colitis-1983 | Search-discovered; public forum article/comments around natural management | Raw snapshot saved | Lower priority unless comments contain patient reports |
Tier 3 — Experimental / alternative communities to monitor with stricter safety filters
| Community | URL | Why monitor | Safety/quality caveat |
|---|---|---|---|
| Low-Toxin Forum | https://lowtoxinforum.com/ | Ray Peat / bioenergetic / low-toxin community; likely to surface non-mainstream UC remission protocols | Strong cure claims; possible supplement/protocol risk; label anecdotal/speculative |
| Bluelight | https://www.bluelight.org/community/ | Harm-reduction/drug forum; can surface unusual compounds/protocols and user-experience details | High safety filtering; not a medical forum |
| Reddit r/Microbiome | https://www.reddit.com/r/Microbiome/ | Useful for microbiome, probiotics, FMT, stool-test discussions | Often speculative; confirm against clinical evidence |
| Reddit r/Supplements | https://www.reddit.com/r/Supplements/ | Supplement-specific reports, interactions, product quality issues | Commercial/confounded; monitor harms as much as benefits |
| Reddit r/AIP | https://www.reddit.com/r/AutoImmuneProtocol/ | Diet protocol community relevant to UC elimination diets | Self-selection; may underreport medication context |
| Reddit r/carnivore and r/zerocarb | https://www.reddit.com/r/carnivore/ / https://www.reddit.com/r/zerocarb/ | Carnivore/low-carb remission stories appear in Paul’s Notion sources | High bias and cardiovascular/constipation concerns; objective markers needed |
| Reddit r/PlantBasedDiet | https://www.reddit.com/r/PlantBasedDiet/ | Whole-food plant-based UC remission claims and High Carb Health overlaps | Diet ideology bias; may not fit UCAC/fiber tolerance |

When a thread/post looks useful, extract:
- platform/community/thread URL;
- username if public and useful, otherwise omit or anonymize;
- diagnosis certainty: UC/proctitis/Crohn’s/IBD/unknown;
- disease state: active flare/remission/unknown;
- intervention(s): diet, supplement, medication, procedure, lifestyle, protocol;
- dose/duration/timing if stated;
- objective markers: calprotectin, CRP, colonoscopy, histology, labs, medication status;
- outcome: symptom improvement, remission, cure claim, worsening, relapse, no effect;
- confounders: concurrent meds, steroids, biologics, mesalamine, antibiotics, diet changes, spontaneous remission;
- safety concerns;
- relevance to Paul’s central theory;
- whether it should become a journal finding, method page update, top insight, or clinician question.
Current access notes from 2026-06-25
- Firecrawl/web_search failed with a billing authorization error, so this pass used Jina Reader, Brave search HTML, and local terminal fallbacks.
- Jina Reader successfully retrieved the user-provided Bluelight and Low-Toxin threads.
- Reddit generic reader snapshots were minimal; OpenCLI Reddit search timed out and Reddit public JSON returned 403 from terminal. Use browser/OpenCLI retry later for full Reddit thread extraction.
- Crohn’s Forum was blocked by Cloudflare/“Just a moment” through Jina; use browser/manual extraction later.
- Raw snapshots from this pass are under
raw/social/2026-06-25-uc-forum-watchlist-candidates/.

Access notes from this run:
- Agent Reach reported Reddit active backend as OpenCLI, and Reddit search/read worked this time.
- Managed
web_searchfailed with a Firecrawl/Nouse billing authorization error; the run used OpenCLI Reddit plus Jina Reader/direct forum URLs instead. - OpenCLI printed an update notice: v1.8.3 → v1.8.5.
- HealingWell remained only partially readable through Jina because the index snapshot did not expose thread titles.
High-signal findings to continue tracking:
- New r/UlcerativeColitis antibiotic-remission story: possible infection/pathobiont/antibiotic-responsive subgroup, but high C. difficile/toxic-colitis/microbiome-disruption safety risk and strong diagnosis/confounding questions.
- New helminth/parasite thread: one detailed near-remission report but severe gas/bloating, contagion to spouse, and only ~3 months benefit after deworming; treat mainly as immune/microbiome signal plus safety warning.
- Nicotine-responsive UC pattern remains recurrent; the useful question is clinician-supervised nicotine-replacement relevance for clear responders, not smoking initiation.
- Constipation/mucus/blood reports strongly reinforced the UCAC/proctitis-contact-time branch and the need to track psyllium/water, PEG/Miralax, full evacuation, and pelvic-floor mechanics carefully.
- Bluelight and Low-Toxin continue to surface Pravda/RDLA/redox claims; keep these under the existing redox branch with supplement-quality and DIY/enema safety filters.
Safety boundaries
Community cure/remission reports are valuable, but high-risk patterns must be flagged:
- stopping prescribed UC medications without clinician supervision;
- DIY enemas, especially hydrogen peroxide, chlorine dioxide/CDS/MMS, or irritant protocols;
- unregulated FMT;
- antibiotics/antimicrobials without clinician oversight;
- aggressive fasting/restriction during active flare or weight loss;
- high-dose supplements with liver/kidney/bleeding/electrolyte risks;
- protocols with commercial incentives and no objective markers.
Next actions
